Blog #45 / The LA Times

                               The LA Times

1) Disney's Rich Ross is Really Crazy

Rich Ross thinks that because of Pixar's new movie, 'Toy Story 3,' Pixar should get the Oscar for the best picture. The movie has prophet-ed over $1 billion in Movie Theater appearances and DVDs. Most people have told Ross that he is wasting the studio's money trying to hard for the win. They have done many things like link characters from the best picture win to other films. Ross should slow down and just accept that he might or might not win the Oscar for the greatest picture.

2) 'Tangled' beats 'Burlesque'

Disney Animation come back to the top with a princess who came down from a tower. "Tangled," the storied animation studio's six-years-in-the-making movie based on "Rapunzel," opened to a strong $69 million over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend. Box offices are selling more tickets for 'Tangled' than 'Burlesque, ' Faster,' 'Love and Other Drugs. 'Tangled' also enjoyed solid if not huge starts in a few foreign countries, particularly Russia, where it took in $7.5 million.

3) The Biz: Eye Wear Shoots for Style in 3-D

The movies in 3-D may be cool, but the glasses you get to watch them with are most certainly not. The Buddy Holly-like spectacles are not only clunky, but some moviegoers complain that the reusable glasses cause eye strain and question just how thoroughly they have been sanitized. Marchon3D, a division of Marchon Eye wear based in Melville, N.Y., has licensed its technology to Calvin Klein and Nautica for 3-D eye wear between $95 to $150. But the high-tech glasses, with a patented curved-lens design, are useful not just in theaters: They can be worn outdoors as regular sunglasses.Apart from being more stylish, these premium glasses vastly improve the 3-D viewing experience, manufacturers claim, because they're lighter, more comfortable and employ advanced optics to filter out reflections and other distractions that can cause eye strain.

4) Epic Mickey: Disney looks for bright future in a dark realm

Epic Mickey is the new video game from Disney for the Wii game system. The happiest place on Earth has a doppelganger. It’s called Wasteland. Its denizens are forgotten, dejected and resentful. But they’re not seething with rage. This is after all still a Walt Disney Co. property, even if its moniker is a topsy turvy twist on the Disneyland theme park where no one really dies and fairy princesses always prevail. It helps that Spector is a devoted Disney fan. During a company-sponsored tour for journalists of Walt Disney’s private apartment at Disneyland two weeks ago, his eyes welled up as he blurted, “I’ve modeled my whole life after two people, David O. Selznick and Walt Disney.”

5) Robot trained to care for the elderly at University of Connecticut

At the University of Connecticut, a robot named Nao is learning how to take care of elderly patientsThe toddler-sized machine is being programmed to determine how often it should remind its charges to take their medication, when to notify an overseer and when to just let the patients enjoy some autonomy. Nao, a sleek creature with glowing eyes, represents a combination of basic ethical principles, machine learning techniques, and artificial intelligence science. It looks partly cute and partly creepy, walking in lolling steps and speaking in its mechanical voice: "It is time to take your medication."

3 Stories That Interest Me the Most

1) Advice Columns
Advice Columns can benefit not just the students, but the teachers as well. Advice can be about anything or anyone. Advice can be about what do to on on a weekend, what do to when in a struggle with God, or what do if you get a bad grade. Many people have different advice needs. I could brake those needs and give advice to many people.

First, I could give advice on what to do during a weekend. I know that could give people a lot of ideas for this one. They could read a good book snuggled under the covers or something like that. They could watch a good movie with their family members with popcorn. They could make things for elder neighbors or something.

Second, I could give advice on what to do when in a struggle with God. I could give them references to a church or people who could help. I could just give them scripture or encouraging words. I would do anything to lift some one's spirit about God to help them get to heaven. I could also schedule a meeting to discuss God and invite other people to make them feel comfortable.

Third, I could give ideas on what to do when you get a bad grade. I could give good study tips or advice about who to study with. I would tell them to just try harder next test. I would say that they could ask their parents to look it over with them. I could give great advice to whomever needs it about grades.

2) Restaurant Reviews
I could give great reviews on restaurants around the area that can be great for weddings, just nights with parents, or birthdays. I know everyone wants to go somewhere special for an event. I know love going out to eat for a wedding, birthdaynjust because. My family and I always go out to eat for special events. I would love going to restaurants to review them for special events.

First, I could do reviews for weddings. I could review caterers for a wedding to make sure a happy couple has a good wedding. I know I would want someone to review a caterer for my wedding. The day will be ruined if no one reviews a caterer and the couple has bad food. It would benefit everyone to have a caterer interviewed.

Second, some parents just don't want to cook and go eat out with their kids. I know if my family went out to eat, I would want to know about the food. Everybody wants to know what a restaurant has before they go to it. I really will review some restaurants in order to making some night special. I love to help people, and I know the people love when I help them.

Third, I can help review restaurants for people's birthdays. I know on my birthday, I would want to eat at the best restaurant. I love to help any one's birthday more special. The worst that could happen is the whole family goes to eat and everything, but when they get their food they are disgusted. I know for my birthday I would not want that to happen to me.

3) Trivia
I could give a trivia on many things to give the readers something to do. A newspaper is pretty boring with just boring articles. I know if the reader has something to do it keeps them interested in reading. Trivia can be about school, sports, or Bible stories. I know I enjoy a newspaper with trivia.

First, the trivia could be about school. I know if I were a principal I would want my students to be tested if they know about the school. It would be cool to have fun in school while learning about the school. It could be funny especially if a student says a totally bogus answer to a school question. I know teachers would get a kick out of this trivia as well as students.

Second, the trivia could be about sports. I know if I was a boy; I would want something that I would be interested in. Boys would love having something in the newspaper that is about sports. I could ask in the trivia like which team won the super bowl in ___ year, and things like that. Boys love when especially almost all girls are working on a newspaper, but still put boy-related stuff in it.

Third, the trivia could be about Bible stories. I know a Christian school would want their students being tested about God. Bible stories can be hard or easy. This trivia would bring a challenge to students from the newspaper. I know my classmates that ride my bus get a kick out of trying to answer the questions in the trivia.

Blog assignment #39/ 5 Fav. Hobbies

My 5 Favorite Hobbies

1) Drawing
I love drawing because when I'm bored I just sit down and begin drawing what I feel. I always draw in the car when I'm bored just to get my mind off of things. I have gotten many compliments on my artwork in the past and I am presently getting complimented on it. I also love to paint for the same reasons. I actually have people who have asked me to paint them something just to have in their office. I am known for my artwork by many people.

2) Volleyball
I love volleyball because I love the way I feel when I hit the ball in the air across the net to the other side. I love when I have tons of people on each team so the ball never touches the ground. I have never actually played on a team yet, but I am this year. I love when my sister is so competitive, but ends up always losing to other people. I love volleyball for many other reasons.

3) Reading
I love reading because I lose myself in a book. There was once a saying that says, "Outside of a dog a book is your best friend. Inside of a dog it is too dark to read." I love that saying because I read all sorts of series of books that keep my nose glued to the pages. I love reading when I am bored for many reasons.

4) Riding My Bike
I love my riding my bike because I love the way the wind in my ride blows my hair. When I ride my bike, I have so much clarity that my mind is completely empty. I have no care in the world when I ride my bike. I always ride my bike with my family during the summer. I love riding my bike when I can.

5) Cooking
I love cooking because when I cook  I make everything filled with love and compassion. I love going to the kitchen and just losing myself in a cake box. I love baking cakes and pastries all the time when I am bored. I love cooking for special events and birthdays. I love drawing, reading, riding my bike, volleyball and cooking.

Blog Assignment #35/ Weekend

My Fun-filled Weekend

My weekend was filled with fun, work, chores, and more fun. I consider weekends to be from Friday after school to Monday morning. Weekends are nothing, but a time away from school and school work. Although I was given homework for the weekend I still managed to have fun. I honestly don't know anyone who dislikes weekends at all.

Friday night, I went to my mom's friend's house to watch a movie and hang out while my parents went to a couple's meeting. We all watched the movie, "How to Train Your Dragon." It was funny because I had just watched that movie earlier in the day for my in-school-play-day at school. I had so much fun cooking homemade nachos all together. We then got bored and started searching for movies on movies-on-demand.

On Saturday, I slept late and finished my homework for the weekend. It was pretty boring doing all my chores until my mom told me to practice for my face painting job that I would do on Sunday. It was all fun after that especially when my mom asked if I wanted her to take me to the 99. My parents and I dropped off my sister at a friend's house and went to the 99. We were in line for an hour and a half, and were in the 99 for an hour. That was the best thing that happened all weekend.

On Sunday, I woke up early to get ready for church and my mom was already up filling the truck for the church's fall fest. When we got to church immediately we started setting up fro all the games. When church started all the ten to twelve year olds got groups of younger kids and the games began. I had four boys in my group, and they loved for me to be the goaly of their soccer game. Then all the older kids watched a drama that happened in church. Finally I finished the day face painting the day away.
