Blog Assignment #10-G. Muller


George Muller

     George Muller was born as Johann Georg Ferdinand Muller. He lived from September 27, 1805 to March 10, 1898. He was  a Christian evangelist and a doctor at Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, England. He cared for 10,024 orphans at that orphanage. He was well known for providing an education for the children he cared for. He also established 117 schools which offered Christian education to over 120,000 children, many of them being orphans.

          Muller was born in Kroppenstaedt (now Kroppenstedt), a village near Halberstadt in the Kingdom of Prussia. His parents' names were Johann Friedrich Muller and Sophie Eleonore MullerIn 1810, the Muller family moved to nearby Heimersleben, where Muller's father was appointed a collector of taxes. His spouses names were Mary Groves and Susannah Grace Sanger. He had two children named Lydia and Elijah. He also had two still-born children.

           The work of Müller and his wife with orphans began in 1836 with the preparation of their own home at 6 Wilson Street, Bristol for the accommodation of thirty girls. The number of girls continued to grow from one hundred and thirty girls to three hundred girls. By 26 May 1870, 1,722 children were being cared for by the Muller's family. Muller did a lot of missionary work while he was alive but sadly in 1898 he passed.
